Is Positivity always the Answer?

The morning begins with a steaming cup of coffee, and a positivity message from well-wishers on social media.
This was followed by many more riding on popular waves and concepts. There is not a single person challenging the validity of these concepts? A singular effort draws immediate silence, and a diversion to other ‘safe’ topics. It chills my spine, irrespective of the warmth that envelops me in the bed.
If this is supposed to set the tone for the day, why does nobody do a recap at the end of the day ?
- “What lessons did you learn during the day ?”
- “How will you carry the same to the next day ?”
- “ Have you developed a strategy to combat the negativity around you?”
- “ Are you well equipped to defend your own interest ?”
And most important of all,
- “Why have the Positive Things not happened today ?”
Because my perception does not alter reality. Chuck the dope.
Life is what happens while you are planning other things. What does one need to prepare for ? The unexpected battles that will need energy and strategy, or miraculous positivity?
I fully agree that thoughts shape action, and action shapes our destiny. Hence, we become what we think. I disagree with the notion that being good and thinking positive will attract success and happiness. We cannot afford to remain oblivious of the obstacles and negativity in our path, and hope to be miraculously rewarded for good Karma.
The proponents of virtue, need to demonstrate success achieved by virtue. Multiple-speak and multiple-think in the system, has confused and debilitated several capable but weak minds.
The child in the Emperor’s story was fearless in calling out the Emperor’s name, since he was oblivious of the consequences that could befall him. Positivity is needed to overcome the fear, and speak out.
“The Emperor has no clothes”.
I see only Fear in the picture below, neither Grandeur nor Sycophancy. And Deception by a master manipulator, who succeeded in instilling fear of being singled out.
The friend who makes an effort to inject cheer in my life, is not a manipulator. S/he is fearful of being singled out for being aloof, a non-believer, a spoilsport. And there are millions who play along, while losing all opportunities to Stand Out.
All capable and intelligent people need to be vigilant, against becoming tools in the power games of manipulators. The strategies employed by the manipulators (I will not call them leaders) of the system, are designed to suit their own success, by stunting the development of the mainstream.
Strategy #1 – Keep them busy
It takes a dimwit or an inexperienced child to say ‘The Emperor has no clothes”. But the dimwit remains a dimwit, a short-term hero for his fearless words, and the Emperor remains an Emperor.
While the Emperor imagines his grand robes, and a customized wardrobe to house the same, the Devil has built a designer castle for himself, with the astronomical amount the Emperor has paid.
People need to remain busy with small battles, small achievements and small joys. It prevents awareness of the total picture, and a consequent uprising and revolution.
Strategy #2 Keep them dreaming
And better, if in a state of deep REM sleep or somnambulism. It reduces sensitivity to the web of control around them.
How many people out there are peddling miracles, from the Miracle Godmen to the people promising “5 or 9 or 15 secrets to success”, and you emerge from the program, just poorer by a few grands? Dreams sell, and dream-weavers are the richest segments of society.
Strategy #3 Keep them working
How often have we heard the words “I hear a lot of good things about you. Keep up the good work” in the power corridors, with a friendly pat on the shoulder ? Why do the powerful never bother to back it up with their first-hand opinions, or awareness of your achievements ? While you remain in your euphoria, busy with good work to strengthen the base of the pyramid, the smart strategist has climbed up to the peak.
You were never supposed to know what was happening up there, in the rarefied atmosphere. The worker bees are needed to build the hive, while the Queen feeds on Royal jelly, and expands her empire.
Strategy #4 Keep them feeling guilty
Unachievable standards of perfection are set. Can you be a selfless God, who sacrificed all for the benefit of his fellow-beings ? It keeps you feeling inadequate, and too small to question the selfish acts of others.
Move the goalposts frequently, change timeframes, so you never gain satisfaction of having reached somewhere. Your achievements are denigrated, because that ‘something else’ was not achieved. Who has not experienced this in annual performance appraisals ? Or in being the parent who has been squeezed out of the last penny, by a selfish and errant offspring ?
Strategy #5 Keep them intoxicated
The opium of Religion, Political loyalty, drugs all keep you safely inoculated against Awareness. What you don’t know cannot hurt you. What you don’t know cannot be questioned. What you don’t know does not depress or demotivate you. People who do not expend effort to understand, remain a loyal and subservient workforce to the masters.
And you travel through this lifetime, happy and sedated.
